The Johnnies move up in the top ten after a 2-0 week with double-digit wins over DePaul and UConn
St. John’s men’s basketball continues to reach new heights in this dream-like 2024-25 season. On Monday afternoon, the Red Storm moved up to No. 7 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll, their highest ranking since the 1991-92 season, which was Lou Carnesecca’s last as head coach of the Johnnies.
After falling one spot in last week’s poll to No. 10 after losing to Villanova on February 12, the Red Storm bounced back with a 2-0 week. Last Wednesday, they blew out DePaul in Chicago, 82-58, despite the services of R.J. Luis. Over this weekend, they crushed longtime rivals UConn at Madison Square Garden, 89-75, at one point leading by 22 points over the Huskies.
No. 7 St. John’s (24-4, 15-2 Big East) faces the Butler Bulldogs (13-14, 6-10 Big East) in their next game on Wednesday, February 25, with tip-off scheduled for 9 p.m. Eastern and the game will be broadcasted on CBS Sports Network.
The Red Storm can clinch a share of the Big East regular season title for the first time since that aforementioned 1991-92 season with a win over Butler or a Creighton loss to DePaul, or the Johnnies can clinch their first outright regular season title since 1984-85 with a win and a Creighton loss.
