St. John’s is in the process of trying to replace Chris Mullin, who stepped down from his post earlier this month after four seasons at the helm. They have reportedly sent out an offer as of late last night.
According to The Athletic’s Andrew Slater, Loyola-Chicago head coach Porter Moser has been offered the position. Moser has been at Loyola for the last eight seasons.
He owns a 141-125 record with the Ramblers and is coming off a 20-14 campaign which included an NIT appearance. Moser’s crowning achievement with Loyola was the program’s miracle run to the 2018 Final Four as a No. 11 seed.
According to the New York Post’s Zach Braziller, St. John’s is basically in a waiting game right now with Moser. As of last night, he seemed likely to take the job after leaving campus.
However, Braziller reports he has to speak with his family first before a decision.
If Moser spurs the Johnnies, the program could double back and look at Iona’s Tim Cluess. Cluess has been linked to the opening since Mullin stepped down.
Arizona State’s Bobby Hurley, rumored to be a top target at the beginning of the search, agreed to a contract extension in Tempe last week.
