Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano found himself as the subject of a viral video on Saturday afternoon. Not for a wild play call or in-game adjustment, but for a mind-bending optical illusion.
Cameras captured the longtime Scarlet Knights coach hyping up a huddle of his players early on in today’s matchup against the Northwestern Wildcats. After slapping one of his guys on the helmet, he ducked behind the huddle and seemingly vanished out of thin air.

This isn’t the first time a Big Ten coach has been the centerpiece of a head-scratching disappearing act.
Back in 2016, then-Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio vanished from the frame in an arguably even more confusing fashion. As a player walked across the screen, the Spartans coach was seemingly replaced by a younger assistant.
Like Schiano, Rutgers has disappeared on the field so far throughout today’s matchup against Northwestern. At the end of the first quarter, the Scarlet Knights are trailing 0-7 and have amassed just 42 yards of total offense.
