New Honors, Opportunities Materialize For NY Stock Risers

August 13, 2025 by Zags Blog

By ZACH SMART

With the slick, flashy, and stealth make up of a quintessential New York City point guard, Class of 2027 New York Rens guard Anderson Diaz has rapidly emerged into a national stock riser.

He’s ascended the high major market following a busy summer spent criss crossing the country on the EYBL circuit.

While Diaz has been hearing from Louisville, UCLA, Seton Hall, Syracuse, and several others, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound Bronx-bred guard was offered by Arkansas on August 7th.

He admits he was thrilled and found added motivation following a recent phone conversation with Arkansas head coach John Calipari.

“I’m very blessed to be able to speak with Coach Cal,” said Diaz, who expressed appreciation regarding Calipari’s widely recognized history of developing a fleet of NBA talent.

“I’m blessed to be one of the kids he sees as good enough to earn an offer. It’s just a great program he’s running over there. He definitely develops a lot of great players and gets them to the level where they need to be.”

Anderson is now building the relationship with Calipari’s assistant coach–a significant New York City recruiting presence Chuck Martin.

A Bronx native who played at St.. Raymond’s and later Monmouth, Martin has known Diaz’s father since their school days.

.After a significant Peach Jam showing, Diaz describes this past year at the now defunct Lawrence Woodmere Academy as a transformation season.

He emphasized his refiinement of all facets of his game as a major component in his ascension.

Diaz said he will likely announce his 2025-26 hardwood home in a matter of days.

“I feel like my game has improved in every way possible,” Diaz said.

“Reading the game as a point guard, I’ve gotten better. I feel like I really just matured as a player this past year. That’s how it should be I I feel, for every player who holds themselves to a high standard. You should always be better than you were the previous year.”

While nothing is yet etched in stone, Diaz said he plans on possibly taking visits at the end of August.

Tennessee is the most recent program to become involved with Diaz, who has won and won often on some of New York City’s most fabled New York asphalt courts this summer.

He displayed his shiftiness, slick left handed scoring repertoire, and blur-like quickness at Dyckman and other proving grounds.

Operating offense and sticking shots on the move, Diaz recently thrived in a lineup featuring former LWA teammate, heavily recruited 6-foot-11 Caleb Ourigou and towering 7-foot-1, 280-pound Miami-bred mountain of a man, Marcis Ponder.

Ponder, of course, recently committed to the new coaching staff at Florida State.

Hot At The Right Time

At 6-foot-3, 185-pounds and possessing a rarefied feel for the game ’27 guard Jayden Lau is starting to blossom.

Improving incrementally with his shiftiness, ability to embrace contact, and spark runs with 3-point onslaughts, the New York City-bred point guard is flushed into a prominent role at Lawrenceville HS (NJ) this coming season.

Capitalizing on reads and whizzing fireball assists with either hand, Lau has been a cerebral game manager. He possesses the ability to trigger the souped up attack, and guard both on the ball and off the ball.

Following a season in which he averaged 16.2 points, 13.2 assists and 9.2 boards, Lau is steadily projecting as one of the most actively recruited players in the area.

Manufacturing points at all three levels and embracing contact on his surges to the rim, Lau balances his offensive aptitude with a deft long range shooting touch.

During the early stage of the summer, Lau was a revelation during the Mid Atlantic Independent event.

He fired in 3-pointers from NBA range, stuck transition treys, knifed his way to the rim and displayed his adeptness for creating space and picking his spots.

A high academic recruit who boasts a 3.8 GPA, Lau has been hearing from the likes of Fairfield, Quinnipiac, Norfolk State, University of Texas-Arlington, Arizona State, and others.

PJ Rising

A sleeper recruit who is rapidly fleeing previous obscurity, Class of 2026 PJ Singleton is coming off a breakout 2025 summer. A 6-foot-6 combination guard at Canarsie HS Singleton showed promise during the event in Rock Hill, SC last month. He catalyzed the NY Wiz Kids with a unique repertoire, one which includes a fall away jumper and a consistent range form the corner.

The big guard played sound multi-positional defense throughout the summer.

Stretching the floor out, Singleton fired in several timely and momentum-bolstering 3-pointers.He has drawn recent offers from Manhattan, Towson, and Hofstra.
