Stephen A. Smith makes a living expressing strong opinions and making predictions.
When you do that every day, you’re bound to get some things wrong. Sometimes “very wrong,” like Smith’s preseason take on the Brooklyn Nets.
On First Take back in October, Stephen A. made three Nets-related predictions: that they would make the NBA Finals, that Kyrie Irving would be a leading MVP candidate and that Ben Simmons would return to All-Star status.
Fast forward to know and Simmons’ season is over after 42 games in which he averaged 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists per outing and Irving and Kevin Durant have been traded. Because of these factors, and others, the Nets’ odds of reaching the Finals are incredibly slim.
Smith’s poor prognostication is currently going viral on Twitter.

That’s a rough one for Stephen A., but like we said, when you fire off takes for a living, you’re going to wind up being way off on a few of them.
This 3-in-1 swing and a miss isn’t going to make him gun shy about any future predictions.
