The Nets acquired Williams, a 23-year-old 6’9” small forward, in July of last year. It was a salary dump for the Memphis Grizzlies who didn’t want to extend Williams, who had been a disappointment after being taken at No. 10 in the 2021 NBA Draft. They also needed cap space to sign Luke Kennard.
The Nets sent Mamadi Diakate, acquired in the Mikal Bridges trade, to Memphis and received Williams and a Dallas Mavericks second rounder in 2030.
