Report: The Nets want to offer contract extensions to Durant, Harden and Irving

The Nets’ big three of Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving are all generational talents – but the upcoming season is pivotal for Brooklyn. Each member of the big three has a player option for the 2022-23 season – meaning the Nets’ superteam experiment could be over just as quickly as it came together – but according to Adrian Wojnarowski on the Lowe Post, the Nets hope to offer them contract extensions.

Locking up Durant, Irving and Harden would be monumental for not just the franchise, but for Brooklyn in general. The city of New York will finally have a basketball team that can contend for years to come. Even better, the chances of the Nets rewarding the city with a championship is also high. That excitement for basketball that was missing in New York since 1999 when the Knicks made it to the Finals will finally be back.

From the player’s perspective, this is also a win-win situation. Durant is arguably the best player in the world and also the best scorer in the world. Harden is one of the best facilitators in the game with a natural ability to score from anywhere. Irving has arguably the best handles we have ever seen and his clutch gene is unmatched. If playing together for the rest of their careers is offered to them, they even know deep down that’s a hard offer to pass up.
