New month, new goals, and new victories. The New York Liberty opened their extended homestand with a matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks. It took some doing, but the Liberty were able to rally and come away with a good win. The champs are now 12-5 on the WNBA season and back in second place in the standings.
The opponent today is looking to make things shake in a major way. The Seattle Storm have done well for themselves in 2025 and hope to get homecourt advantage in the playoffs. They helped the cause with a last second road victory against the Atlanta Dream on Thursday night.

The game
Seattle won the first meeting.
Skylar Diggins is a bit under the weather, but that hasn’t slowed the former Gold Medalist down. With the game on the line, Sky got the rock and went to work
Big time play from Skylar Diggins.

That’s what All-Stars do. Diggins has fully regained her form after a somewhat up-and-down 2024. She missed all of 2023 as she was out on maternity leave and when you combine returning to play with getting used to a new team and new city, it made sense it took time for her to get back to this point. What makes Diggins more dangerous than ever is her three point shooting. SD is above 40 percent from deep since 2015 and she can leverage that threat into drives at the rim and free throw opportunities as well.
Sky got word that she’ll be heading to the big game alongside her teammate, Nneka Ogwumike. The rest of the reserves will be announced before the start of action today.
Speaking of Ogwumike, Madame President will look to put on a show in New York. Ogwumike has shot above 50 percent from the field in every season of her career and is at it once again in 2025. She’s also attempting three pointers at the highest rate of her career and is a threat from all angles on the court. It’ll make for a challenging night for Breanna Stewart. Stewie started at center on Thursday and had her usual excellent game. She’ll have the task of keeping Ogwumike off the glass, finding her way to the rim on offense, and adjusting to the various defenders Noelle Quinn will send her direction throughout the game.
Teams try to blitz Sabrina Ionescu a ton, and it’s something the Storm in particular love to do. Sab missed the first game due to a neck injury, but has been working her way back to full strength ever since. She turned things up in the second half as she found her way to the rim, finished in traffic, and made some big three pointers. Sab’s passing will be essential against the Storm defense as her ability to create advantages will help create good looks for her teammates driving to the rim and in the corners.
Player to watch: Gabby Williams
One thing about me that’s consistent across sports is I always find myself rooting for role players having career years to make the All-Star Game. Opportunities like that are incredibly rare and it would be a tremendous reward for a good player as well as introduce them to a larger audience. For Gabby, she has been sensational in 2025 and has really gotten to display all aspects of her game. She can defend four positions, is a great secondary shot creator, and is consistently excellent every game. An All-Star appearance would be a tremendous reward for all of her hard work and serve as the perfect acknowledgement of everything she brings to the game of basketball.ment of
Having Leonie Fiebich back helps make the Liberty more whole. Leo only scored five points in her return from Eurobasket, but her combination of length and timing on defense makes her valuable no matter what she does on offense. Sandy Brondello has mentioned that she wants Leo to be more engaged on offense and not looking to set her teammates up as much up as much. When Fiebich is able to find those scoring opportunities, we can see just how special she is.
