Nets’ Jacque Vaughn says team ‘understands what our goal is’ after win over Hawks

The Brooklyn Nets have turned their season around from what looked like a disaster in the beginning to the success that it looks like right now. From starting this season at 2-5 to now being 23-12 and everything in between, the players have bought into what head coach Jacque Vaughn is selling.

Vaughn has said on multiple occasions that he wants to make things simple for the guys so that playing basketball, and everything that comes with it, becomes second nature. That includes actions such as trimming down the playbook to changing how shootarounds and practices operate.

Those changes appear to have positive effects on the team as Brooklyn has won 10 straight games and have won 14 of their last 15 games heading into Saturday’s matchup with the Charlotte Hornets. Vaughn spoke after Wednesday’s 108-107 win over the Atlanta Hawks about what has led the Nets to such great success recently and being able to win close games:

“It really boils down to the individuals understanding what our goal was when we set out on this together. When your number’s called that you’re available and that you’re ready to play and you’re professional. We’re going to treat you that way, I’m going to talk to you as a professional, mature like. A great example is Patty (Mills) tonight and we needed his three threes. Imagine we didn’t have that in that stretch in the second. To see the professionalism, let the young guys see him work and then, being able to produce.”

The last time the Nets won 10 games in a row was during the 2005-2006 season.
