The Brooklyn Nets (32-50, 11th in the Eastern Conference) are coming off a 2023-24 season in which they fell below their expectations of making the playoffs by not even making the play-in tournament. Now that Brooklyn’s season is over, they have plenty of matters that they have to address including which one of their free-agents they will be bringing back to the team for next season and beyond.
Much of the attention for the Nets will be focused on center Nic Claxton who will be an unrestricted free-agent this summer. This makes sense given that Claxton has been a huge part of the Nets over the past two seasons as he has been the anchor of their defense and has been a consistent lob threat for a team that struggles to score at times.
Aside from that, there are other free-agents for Brooklyn to think about in guards Lonnie Walker IV and Dennis Smith Jr. and forward Trendon Watford. All three players came to the franchise last offseason on minimum deals and it stands to reason that all three may have earned bigger paydays so time will tell if the Nets can afford to bring back all of them.
For the purpose of this article, the Two-Way players (Keon Johnson, Jaylen Martin, and Jacob Gilyard) will not be addressed because they will be evaluated differently from the other free-agents and will probably be back with Brooklyn next season.
