Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder is not playing for Team USA, but it doesn’t mean that he isn’t involved in the festivities of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Schroder will be leading the German National Team to the goal of a gold medal and he will be doing so with the great honor of being the flag-bearer for the country.
Schroder posted Tuesday on his Instagram page a picture of him holding the German flag with subsequent reports confirming that he will be the flag-bearer for Germany. Schroder has a tough task ahead of him as Team Germany will be depending on him to be one of the driving forces for a team that is trying to be the last team standing, something that would probably have to include upsetting Team USA at some point.
The 2024 Paris Olympics begin on Friday, but prior to the games being official, each team had their chance of tune-up games to get ready for the sporting event. If those exhibitions are any indication of how close Germany could be to proving competitive within the field, they did lose to the Americans 92-88 on Monday and the Germans possibly could have pulled off the upset if it wasn’t for the greatness of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.
With that being said, Schroder understands what an honor it is to be a flag-bearer for a country, especially on the stage of the Olympics that virtually everyone around the world will be watching. Schroder had this to say about being named the official flag-bearer for Germany:
“It’s insane. With my background, my mom’s from Gambia, me being dark-skinned in Germany, been tough sometimes growing up. To be able to represent Germany, it’s insane.”
