The Brooklyn Nets do not have any players on the roster that are participating in the upcoming Olympics for Team USA, but they do have a player that will be playing in the event. Brooklyn guard Dennis Schroder is representing his native Germany in the Olympics and during the current tune-up circuit, he almost pulled off an upset over the Americans.
Schroder and the German National Team lost to Team USA on Monday 92-88 in what proved to be the final exhibition for both teams prior to the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Schroder did his part for the Germans as he put up 13 points and 10 assists as the point guard while getting a lot of help from players like Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner (18 points).
The Germans made things interesting in the second half as they led the Americans 71-68 heading into the fourth quarter, something that made a lot of Team USA fans wonders if the Americans were going to lose an exhibition. Team USA did come dangerously close to losing to South Sedan, coached by former Nets assistant Royal Ivey, and the same almost happened to the Americans on Monday.
Germany is playing for something as well as this same team won the gold medal at the 2023 FIBA World Cup and they are looking for the grand prize of winning it all at the Olympics. Highlights from Schroder and the rest of the game can be found down below:
