Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder is one of the few people within the organization that is busy this time of year given that he’s trying to help his native Germany win the gold medal. Germany is ultimately going to have to get far enough in the 2024 Paris Olympics to have a shot at beating the United States, but the German National Team is doing its part to get there.

Germany beat Brazil on Tuesday 86-73 to get to 2-0 within their field thanks to Schroder’s 20 points and six assists to lead the team in both categories. In the first half, it looked like Germany may not be keeping its part to get deep enough in the tournament to face Team USA as they tied Brazil 40-40 at halftime.

Germany began the game by winning the first quarter 22-10, but lost the second quarter 30-18 to seemingly lose any advantage they gained in the initial period. Germany went on to take care of business from that point on as they led 60-51 after three quarters before winning the fourth quarter by four points to reach the final score.

Schroder was huge in the contest for Germany, but he also received help from Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner (17 points) and Bayern Munich guard Issac Bonga (15 points). Due to Schroder coming through for his country when they needed him most, he also sent France and Canada to the Quarterfinals because of how the group stages work in this tournament.
