Facing a 3 p.m.ET Thursday deadline, the Nets have declined their $5 million team option on Garrett Temple. The combination of that and the acquisition of Bruce Brown Jr. Monday and Landry Shamet Wednesday likely means an end to his time in Brooklyn.
Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news shortly before 3 p.m.
The Brooklyn Nets are declining Garrett Temple’s option for the 2020-2021 season, source tells ESPN. He will become a free agent.

The 6’5” Temple who played both guard positions for the Nets as well as the wing had the best statistical season of his 11-year career in 2019-20, averaging 10.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 27.9 minutes a game. He shot 38/33/81.
Although there was speculation in the off-season that the Nets might want to bring the 34-year-old back on a smaller contract, the addition of two 6’4” guards in Brown and Shamet would seem to make him less valuable.
The Nets now have 12 players under contract, counting Brown and Shamet but not counting free agent Joe Harris, second round pick Reggie Perry or two-way player Jeremiah Martin who is in the second year of a two-way deal.
The Nets also made another deadline move Thursday, providing a qualifying offer to point guard Chris Chiozza. Hoopshype’s Mike Scotto broke that news.
The Brooklyn Nets will extend a qualifying offer to Chris Chiozza, @hoopshype has learned. Chiozza will become a restricted free agent.

The Nets can now match any offer for Chiozza who isn’t likely to command more than a vets minimum deal.
In the NBA’s abbreviated preseason, free agency begins at 6 p.m. Friday with signings permitted at 12:01 p.m. Sunday.
Tuesday is the trigger date for the first of three guarantees to be paid Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot. He signed a non-guaranteed deal back in January. The Nets must agree to pay him $150,000 of his $1.8 million deal on Tuesday, then another $250,000 on Opening Night, December 22. His contract becomes fully guaranteed on February 24.
