The Brooklyn Nets are in the middle of an important offseason for them as they look to make changes to get them back into the playoffs next season. One of the players who made a huge jump in their production this past season is no longer in contention for the accolade to reflect his growth.
In an X post by the NBA on Sunday, the league announced the finalists for this season’s Most Improved Player of the Year award: Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey, Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun, and Chicago Bulls guard Coby White. A noticeable omission from the finalist pool was Nets guard Cam Thomas.
Thomas, 22, has spoken about being considered for the award several times over the course of this season given that he has taken a significant jump in his production and his profile this year. Thomas ended this season averaging 22.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists per game while shooting 44.2% from the field and 36.4% from three-point land.
Last season, Thomas averaged just 10.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game in just 16.6 minutes per game. Including Thomas with the finalists, he is second in points per game and is arguably the only player within the quarter who became the primary scoring option for his respective team.
Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas did not make it among the finalists for the MIP award. He had a great improvement from last season to this season, going from 10.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists last season to 22.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists this season. https://t.co/936r6DI9lL
