Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson has been with the team since the middle of the 2022-23 season when he was traded away from the Phoenix Suns in the Kevin Durant deal. Since coming to Brooklyn, Johnson has had mixed results while being in different roles, but he still has time for hot takes.
In a recent episode of the Nets’ “The Brooklyn Way” video series, Johnson sat down with Chef Kwame Onwuachi to talk about various topics, including space. When Onwuachi asked Johnson about the possibility of extraterrestrial beings, i.e. aliens, being able to play the sports that Dr. James Naismith created in 1891, the former Sun had a solid response.
“No, absolutely not. There’s no way they (aliens) could come to Earth and hoop,” Johnson said. While humans have made incredible discoveries in terms of space and the exploration of it, there is still so much to know when it comes everything other than Earth. That is what fascinates Johnson about space in the first place.
“It’s fascinating, right? Everything in our world gets so busy and you get so caught up in everything. Everything seems of such massive importance… I think just learning about it reading about it and trying to understand it better just puts so much in perspective,” Johnson explained.
For those familiar with what Johnson takes part in off the court, he has also taken his love for Astronomy as far as he can take it as an NBA player. In December, he even participated in a “space draft” with acclaimed astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson.
