The Brooklyn Nets are finally able to show what some of their younger players have learned since last season with the Las Vegas Summer League beginning play on Friday. While second-year players like Noah Clowney, Jalen Wilson, and Dariq Whitehead were always expected to participate in the summer league, their play will carry more importance this time around.
The Nets essentially reset the timeline of their franchise when they traded Mikal Bridges last month to the New York Knicks in exchange for three players and five first-round picks. Now that Brooklyn is expected to be a seller this offseason so that the younger players have more playing time and opportunities to develop, players like Clowney, Wilson, and Whitehead will have plenty of chances to realize their full potential.
Summer league play is also a great opportunity for players to show that they belong in the NBA. Someone like Villanova point guard Mark Armstrong, for example, that has NBA-level athleticism, but went undrafted due to concerns about his size and shooting not translating to the league.
