The Brooklyn Nets have a lot of work to do this offseason in terms of roster construction if they want to be one of the teams that makes it to the playoffs next season. However, if Brooklyn’s ultimate goal is to maintain flexibility for next offseason when more stars are available in free-agency, they have some long odds for making the postseason.
BetMGM recently posted its futures for the 2024-25 NBA season and most fans know the teams that are expected to be in contention for the championship next season. It’s important to note that the Nets are +50000 (bet $100 to win $50,000) which gives them the second-worst odds at winning the title with teams like the Charlotte Hornets, Toronto Raptors, and the Utah Jazz.
It makes sense why the betting markets are low on the Nets given that the team does not have a superstar on the roster and it’s also debatable whether they have a star-level player on the team either (depending on how someone feels on Mikal Bridges). Outside of that conversation, it’s clear that Brooklyn will not be competing for a championship soon and as such, could be entering another season that could prove tough for everyone involved.
The Nets are coming off a 2023-24 season in which they finished with a disappointing 32-50 record despite beginning the campaign with an encouraging 13-10 mark. Right now, it appears that Brooklyn is worried about re-signing center Nic Claxton so that they can move into next season knowing who will be taking the floor for new head coach Jordi Fernandez.
