With the 2021 NBA Finals on the verge of ending, Kevin Durant made an interesting comment on Instagram comparing his 2017 triumph with the Warriors over the Cavaliers to the current Finals series.
The 32-year-old said that the 2017 NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers was better – and also claimed that the matchup was “perfectly even.” The matchup featured talent such as himself, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Love and Draymond Green.
Although it is Durant’s opinion, what makes his statement controversial is how far the 2017 Finals series went. The Warriors handled business easily, beating Cleveland 4-1 in the series. In fact, the series was not tied at any point. Currently in this Bucks-Suns matchup, things were more balanced. After Phoenix took a 2-0 lead, Milwaukee stormed right back into the mix after defending home court advantage. Game 5 felt like a do-or-die game for both teams and it went right down to the wire. It took a clutch sequence by Holiday and Antetokounmpo for Milwaukee to come out on top.

Of course both series’ are entertaining; however, the Warriors-Cavaliers NBA Finals in 2017 was better talent-wise. I mean come on, Kevin Durant was going crazy. He averaged 35.2 points, 8.0 rebounds and 5.4 assists in the series. On the other side, LeBron James was making history. James averaged 33.6 points, 12.0 rebounds and 10.0 assists. The 36-year-old became the first player to ever average a triple-double in the Finals.
