Jalen Wilson scores 23 points in Long Island Nets win over College Park Skyhawks, 119-118

Jalen Wilson has now put up 55 points in his last two G League games, the latest a close win at Nassau Coliseum.

The Long Island Nets defeated the College Park Skyhawks, 119-118, Wednesday at Nassau Coliseum, lead by Brooklyn two-way Jalen Wilson who finished with 26 points, giving him 58 points in the last two games.

The 6’7” Jalen Wilson, who Long Island officially describe as a guard-forward, added nine rebounds and five assists in 35 minutes. He shot 10-of-13 overall and 2-of-3 from deep to continue his hot shooting which began two nights earlier vs the Hawks affiliate in College Park, Ga. He dominated the game highlights…

Over the two game spread, the Kansas product has shot 18-of-25 (72.0%) and 11-of-16 (68.7%), stunning in part because NBA scouts had wondered about his jump shot before the 2023 Draft. The Nets took Wilson at No. 51. Wilson is now averaging 20.6 points and 7.3 boards on shooting splits of 52/50/85 shooting splits in the G League.

Brooklyn two-way guards Keon Johnson and Armoni Brooks posted 18 points and four assists each, Johnson in 25 minutes and Brooks in 28 minutes, respectively. Johnson, who’s now up to 11.0 points a game after being signed by Brooklyn just before the season began, once again showed off his 48” max vertical.

While on assignment with Long Island, Brooklyn center Noah Clowney recorded 11 points, nine rebounds, one assist and one steal in 21 minutes. Dariq Whitehead did not suit up as he continues his recovery from off-season foot surgery.

Overall, Long Island put six players in double figures. the Nets 6’0” point guard, Kennedy Chandler and 6’7” wing Kaiser Gates, both finished with 13.

College Park’s offense set the pace early with seven 3-pointers in the first quarter. Despite the Skyhawks’ effort, the two teams closed the period tied 30-30. Long Island turned up the heat in the second quarter, outscoring College Park 39-33 on 66.7% shooting from both the field and from distance in the quarter. The Nets closed the period ahead by six, 69-63.

Long Island kept its’ foot on the gas in the third quarter as they outscored College Park 31-20 while shooting 57.1 percent from the field. Wilson ended the quarter with an and-1 layup.

The Nets went into the final quarter ahead by 17, 100-83. College Park tried to battle back in the fourth and outscored Long Island 35-19 in the quarter, but it was not enough. The Nets went on to defeat the Skyhawks by one, 119-118. Wilson socred the last six points for Long Island who survived a 3-point shot in the closing seconds.

Atlanta two-way guard/forward Seth Lundy posted 26 points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal in 36 minutes. College Park guard Tyson Etienne recorded 22 points, three assists and two blocks in 29 minutes.

Long Island (5-4) will face Raptors 905 in the second night of a back-to-back-set on Thursday, at 7:00 p.m. ET at Nassau Coliseum.
