Brooklyn Nets backup center Day’Ron Sharpe came into the 2023-24 season looking to make it clear that he was the backup center that Brooklyn needed as they were trying to make the playoffs. Sharpe’s first two seasons in the NBA left some to be desired as he struggled with foul trouble and at times looked like he didn’t know where to be on the floor when it came time for him to make a big play on a particular possession on either end of the floor.
That changed this season as Sharpe looked like he was more active on the glass and also showed that he has more in his tool box than he let on in his first two seasons in the league. At one point, Sharpe showed that the Nets were smart to stick it out with him and not go outside of the organization (think Moses Brown or Nerlens Noel in previous years) to look for center production since he was ready for the opportunity this time around.
Sharpe was huge in the rebounding department for a Brooklyn team that needed its biggest players to step up given the roster’s relative lack of size compared to most teams in the NBA and he was better with throwing his weight around without losing control. Sharpe showed enough this season for there to be excitement about his future so he’s how he graded out for his performance during the 2023-24 campaign:
