Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas came into the 2023-24 season with the expectation of being in his usual role: bringing scoring off the bench. From the first game of the season in which Thomas dropped 36 points in a 114-113 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, it was clear that he was prepared for more than just being a bench scorer.
With the Nets dealing with some injuries to begin the season with forward Cam Johnson and center Nic Claxton suffering injuries in the season opener, Thomas had to be one of the people to step up and did so admirably. After starting just six games in his first two seasons, Thomas started seven of Brooklyn’s first eight games this past season and he was a big reason that the Nets came away with a 4-4 record to begin the season as he scored at least 27 points in five of those eight contests.

In the end, Thomas started 51 of 66 games played and was a candidate for the NBA’s Most Improved Player of the Year award, showing how much the rest of the league took notice to his improvement.
