Michael Scotto: Sources: The Brooklyn Nets declined to tender Day’Ron Sharpe his 1-year, $5.98 million qualifying offer. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent after averaging 7.9 points and 6.6 rebounds in 18.1 minutes per game this season. Brooklyn hopes to re-sign him with cap space flexibility.

The rebuilding Nets are not in a position to let the little young talent they already have walk out the door for nothing. Among their host of free agents this summer, that means re-signing Cam Thomas and Day’Ron Sharpe could be near the top of general manager Sean Marks’ list of priorities. “Both of those guys have shown tremendous development over the years,” Marks said. “You saw Cam take on a little bit of a different role this year in several games. He became more of a playmaker out there, which is great. I know he’s frustrated with not playing as many games as he did this year. -via New York Post / April 18, 2025
What he’ll want to know from Nets GM Sean Marks is how he fits into the team’s future plans, whether he’s going to help them win as a leader or as a trade chip. “Definitely, definitely go to him and ask, because I have a very vested interest in what we’re doing here,” Johnson said. “I feel like I’ve put a lot of effort into trying to be a part of this program. And I take that very seriously. And I feel like I’ve also been given a responsibility to have that approach. “I’d definitely like to know everything that’s going on. And I understand that I’m not going to be let in on every decision or have a say in every decision, but I would like to know going forward. But it is also my job to at this point work on myself, get better, and handle whatever comes along being a pro in the situation.” -via New York Post / April 18, 2025
“I’m new to this so whatever happens, happens. But I like Brooklyn, so God willing [I’ll be back],” Sharpe said. Two sources who spoke with The Post tabbed Thomas’ value at $20 million annually while Spotrac suggested he’ll re-sign for three years and $45 million. “It’s not really nothing for me to be intimidated or excited about because I know my value that I bring to a team. I’ve just got to see how that goes,” Thomas said. “But I definitely know my value and all my work.” -via New York Post / April 15, 2025
