Ben Simmons was a big hit Monday night at the Met Gala in New York. What what was that clock about?
Time, time, time is on his side, yes it is. Time has come today, too. This could the last time, we don’t know. Indeed, time flies. Even a broken clock is right twice a day! A watched clock never boils! (Or is that a pot?)
Why do we ask?
Here’s why. On Monday night, while other NBA players were on the court, Ben Simmons took time off from his rehab in Miami to show off in Manhattan. He highlighted his already highly refined fashion sense at the annual Met Gala in New York. As only someone with a 6’10” frame can do, Simmons was one of the stars of the show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, dressed in what might be called Sherlock Holmes chic, complete with tinted classes … and a briefcase adorned with a large inset clock. Oh yes, On his wrist was a Patek Philippe Aquanaut with a gem-set rainbow bezel and he wore Flavor Flav shoes, we’re told. But forget the watch, the shoes. What about that clock!

Overall, as Andrew Battifarano of the Post wrote, Simmons was wearing a outfit designed by Thom Browne, an established designer who’s previously dressed First Lady Michelle Obama at her husband’s second presidential inauguration in 2012 and President Joe Biden in his 2016 campaign.
But again! What about that clock?!? What does it tell us about his rehab?!? Blessedly nothing. The time motif was not some hidden message for fans but the theme of the overall gala, as the Post noted.
Simmons’ Browne outfit was part of this year’s Met Gala theme that comes from the 2024 Costume Institute exhibition at the Met called “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
Boo. Fans could have spent precious hours of their own free time (or their employers) devising all manner of theories based on that oversized clock. Then, some might ask why was his bow tie askew? What was the message THERE?!? Huh?!?
