Anthony Davis after loss vs. Nets: ‘There’s frustration, for sure’

January 21, 2024 by Hoops Hype

Dave McMenamin: Anthony Davis: “I wouldn’t say it’s concerning. There’s frustration, for sure.” He says one comes from a place in being unable to succeed, the other is from not doing the things you’re capable of to succeed consistently. pic.twitter.com/YYCGsyppQa

What’s the buzz on Twitter?

Chris Fedor @ChrisFedor
NBA All-Star ballot thoughts: The Western Conference Frontcourt is the toughest category this season. There are about six or seven guys — Jokic, LeBron, Kawhi, Sabonis, AD, Paul George, KD — for just three starter spots. – 12:52 PM

Is it concerning that the Lakers haven’t consistently strung together strong performances?
To Anthony Davis, it’s more frustrating than concerning: pic.twitter.com/ZRIvA2AhRk – 3:08 AM

Anthony Davis and D’Angelo Russell both pointed to defensive miscommunication when asked about the Lakers’ defense after the 1Q.

Why are Anthony Davis and LeBron James still in the game? – 12:38 AM
Bob Garcia @bgarciaivsports
I don’t know why LeBron and AD are still in the game. It’s over. – 12:32 AM
CJ Holmes @CjHolmes22
This has to be Nic Claxton’s most dominant game of the season. Nets are feeding him. He’s also pressing the issue, nice finishes in transition. He has 22 points and 13 rebounds with 6:51 left. Going at Anthony Davis. – 12:30 AM
Bob Garcia @bgarciaivsports
Yeah take AD and LeBron out of this game. – 12:24 AM

As LeBron discussed after LAL’s last win, Anthony Davis has really improved his passing out of a double team, which he just showed by finding a cutting LeBron for a dunk that put LAL up 24-13.
D’Angelo Russell has 10 points to continue his hot stretch of late. – 10:50 PM

Tough start for the Nets, but Spencer Dinwiddie is playing like someone who was reading Twitter all day.

Anthony Davis (bilateral Achilles tendinopathy) and LeBron James (left ankle peroneal tendinopathy) have been upgraded to AVAILABLE for tonight’s game vs. Brooklyn. – 9:58 PM

Nets coach Jacque Vaughn on Anthony Davis emerging even more as a passer of late out of double teams, but also in screen/roll action:
“He’s doing it from different areas in the court. His ability to really be a hub of late puts another problem in front of us.” – 9:12 PM
Jim Eichenhofer @Jim_Eichenhofer
Always love seeing how many fans in @SmoothieKingCtr are totally bought in and already wearing the Pierre Mardi Gras hats (also just saw Joel and AD wearing them pregame). Definitely something you will notice in the stands if you’re watching on TV pic.twitter.com/WmBddqIXkA – 8:01 PM

More on this storyline

Ryan Ward: Anthony Davis on D’Angelo Russell: “He comes in and puts the work in. He stays engaged, and when he gets on the floor, he produces. He’s an elite scorer and an elite playmaker, and like I said, when he’s playing at that level, we were a tough team to beat.” -via Twitter @RyanWardLA / January 18, 2024
Ryan Ward: LeBron on AD’s improved passing: “He’s learning from me how to pass. … I’m serious. He’s been working on it, and it’s great. Teams are gonna stop doubling him soon.” -via Twitter @RyanWardLA / January 18, 2024
For nearly a year, the Lakers had extended internal discussions about whether to pursue Irving via trade or free agency, sources said. They’d called the Brooklyn Nets to register interest in trading for him on several occasions since June 2022, when Irving and the Nets couldn’t come to an agreement on a long-term extension. They weighed the risks of investing in the mercurial, often-controversial point guard against the benefits from his still-prodigious talent and obvious fit with James and Anthony Davis. James was open to the idea, sources said, but careful not to do anything that would be seen as a push while the organization was still trying to extricate itself from the ill-fated experiment with Russell Westbrook. -via ESPN / January 17, 2024
