Unlike teams such as the Magic or the Sixers, the Brooklyn Nets made an insane five first-round draft selections. With those five picks, they selected BYU guard Egor Demin, Saint Quentin guard Nolan Traore, UNC wing Drake Powell, Ulm guard Ben Saraf, and Michigan big man Danny Wolf. Each prospect possesses a high degree of potential that can be significant for the Nets in the future. While they didn’t find much team success in Summer League, each prospect did show flashes of their potential. With these five selections, let’s delve into three reasons why the Brooklyn Nets won the 2025 NBA Draft.
3 Reasons Why The Brooklyn Nets Won The 2025 NBA Draft
#1: Passing To The Max
Undoubtedly, the Brooklyn Nets drafted the most passing-focused crop of prospects in the class. Outside of Powell specifically, each of Brooklyn’s selections is regarded as an excellent passer and playmaker in their own right. The size that Demin, Saraf, and Wolf possess allows them to see over defenses and find the appropriate player to pass to. Whereas Traore uses his speed to get by opponents or draw their attention, creating open looks for his team. While Powell isn’t on the same level of passing as the other four, he showed at UNC that he also has some passing chops.
Purely based on their draft picks, the Nets clearly want to build a team predicated on ball movement. With this collection of players, Brooklyn will absolutely see a faster-paced team that can make the other team dizzy from the passing. Having a team that will have the passing advantage on most nights certainly gives the Nets a clear plan in mind as they navigate their rebuild.
#2: Tons Of Positional Size
Another big win from this Brooklyn’s draft class is the overall positional size of their draft picks. Demin has enormous size for a guard at six-foot-nine. For Saraf, he also has good size for a guard, standing at six-foot-five. Powell has excellent measurements and size for an NBA wing, standing at six-foot-six with a seven-foot wingspan. As for Wolf, he has a good combination of size and length as a combo big, standing at six-foot-eleven with a seven-foot-two wingspan.
Outside of Traore, each of the Brooklyn rookies possesses great size at their position. Unquestionably, they will typically have the size advantage against many of their matchups. Even for Traore, he stands at six-foot-three but with a six-foot-eight wingspan, which is great length for his size. As the league trends towards more positional size, the Nets getting a major crop of that is a great win for them.
#3: Overall High Potential
Lastly, the high potential this crop of Brooklyn rookies has is another reason why they won the draft. Each player that they draft has clear and obvious NBA-level attributes, but they also have shown great potential in other areas. For example, Demin has shown flashes of becoming a true three-point shooting threat. Not only that, but his size and length give him a great defensive profile. Should Demin improve in those areas, he would certainly be a top-10 player in his class.
The same can be said for the other Brooklyn rookies, as they all have high potential. Having such a large group of promising players can pay off dividends for the Nets in the future. If the Nets can fully focus their efforts on developing their rookies, they can have one of the brightest futures in the league.
