Trae Young and the New York Knicks fans have a long history of hating each other. While Atlanta and New York do not have a long rivalry, Trae had an amazing playoff series against the Knicks in 2021. Since then, Young has constantly drawn ire from the New York faithful.
Trae Young Finds Another Way to Troll Knicks Fans
When the Knicks defeated the Boston Celtics to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, there were some fans that chanted, “F*ck Trae Young!” And it seems like the Hawks point guard wanted to fire back at them.
During the first half of the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Denver Nuggets game, he went on social media. While he hasn’t been very active on Twitter during the playoffs, Young sent a message to Knicks fans, writing: “Hot take but not… OKC fans are louder than Knicks fans. Happy Sunday!”
Hot take but not..
OKC fans are louder than Knick fans.
Happy Sunday!— Trae Young (@TheTraeYoung) May 18, 2025

While the Oklahoma City Thunder do have some of the best fans in the game, it was clear Trae wanted to troll Knicks fans. To be fair, he has managed to silence the fans at Madison Square Garden a couple of times.
Trae Young vs. New York Knicks
The Hawks and the Knicks have met in the playoffs three times. And only one of those is in the last millennium. They played in the 1971 Eastern Conference Semifinals, with the Knicks winning the series 4-1. Then, they met in the 1999 Eastern Conference Semifinals, with the Knicks sweeping Atlanta. But the most recent one is the 2021 Eastern Conference First Round. The Knicks were the favorites with home-court advantage. Both teams finished the 2020-21 season with 41 wins, but the Knicks had the fourth seed.
However, Hawks stole Game 1 and went on to win the series in five games. Trae Young had a couple of daggers during the series and constantly talked back to Knicks fans.
This season, Trae and the Hawks prevented the Knicks from advancing to the NBA Emirates Cup. The Knicks were favored again, but the Hawks beat them to advance to the Semifinals. At the end of that game, Trae rolled the dice at midcourt, alluding that the Hawks are going to Las Vegas. Of course, Knicks fans didn’t take it lightly.
Here is an interesting stat: during the 2019-20 season, Trae averaged 44 points against the Knicks, but New York won two out of three games. Trae scored 42, 48, and 42 in those games.
Knicks Can Get the Last Laugh
This season, the Knicks will play in the Eastern Conference Finals, while the Hawks will watch from home after losing two play-in games to the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat. This summer, Trae will be one of the most coveted players in a trade. The Knicks, on the other hand, have a shot at winning the title, something they haven’t done since 1973. They also haven’t made the Conference Finals since 2000.
Even some fans in the comments reminded Trae of the Knicks’ feats. Some of them replied “you will see Knicks fans on TV in a few days. Just shut up”, “tweeting from Cancun”, “enjoy the offseason”, “Hot take but not.. There are way better vacation destinations than Cancun for NBA players enjoying their offseason”, and more.
