New York seeks to finish the job and close out the series tonight in Detroit.
The New York Knicks head to Detroit tonight up 3-2, aiming to close out the Pistons and move on to round two of the Eastern Conference Playoffs.
Good news: the Knicks are healthy. Jalen Brunson tweaked an ankle in Game Five and Josh Hart left late with soreness, but both are ready to play tonight. For Detroit, Isaiah Stewart is a gamet-time decision yet again.
Game Five was tight. New York took an early lead, but collapsed in the third quarter for the umpeenth time, and clawed back from down 10 to lead late. Then Cade Cunningham took over. He scored 20 in the second half, including big buckets late. The Knicks couldn’t respond once Brunson and Hart left the floor, and they didn’t renter the game until it was too late because Thibs refused to burn a timeout.
Fear not. The Knicks still hold the edge. Defense travels, and OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, and Hart are playing well on that end (superstar Karl-Anthony Towns . . . less so). This is the moment to step on their necks, quiet the crowd, and advance to face the Celtics in round two. Detroit had lost nine straight playoff games at home. Tonight will be the tenth.
