There have been lingering questions on whether Jason Kidd could be pried away from the Dallas Mavericks to become the next head coach of the New York Knicks. During his media availability after the first round of the draft, Nico Harrison clarified that Kidd will remain with the Mavericks.
“Are there rumors out there about J-Kidd?” said Harrison. “I thought I shut them down. Yes. He will be the head coach next year.”
Kidd has yet to sign a contract extension with the Mavericks since the Knicks reached out requesting permission to speak with him. However, Kidd signed a contract extension with the Mavericks during their run to the Finals in 2024. Kidd has two seasons remaining on his contract with the Mavericks.
The Mavericks have also lost a number of key assistant coaches this offseason including Sean Sweeney and God Shammgod.
Kidd is believed to be the Knicks’ top choice to replace Tom Thibodeau.
