Mitchell Robinson and the New York Knicks did not engage in advance extensions discussions before the season. There’s no sense that Robinson and New York will reach an agreement on an extension before the June 30 deadline.
Without an extension, Robinson would become an unrestricted free agent in July. The veteran center would be one of the best available centers in free agency. In addition to that, there should be several teams with meaningful cap space this offseason. That could put the Knicks, who are facing luxury tax and apron issues in a tough spot to retain Robinson.
