New York Knicks guard Landry Shamet exited his team’s loss early on Saturday night due to a right shoulder injury. Shamet was injured in the first quarter of the Knicks road loss at the Orlando Magic. The veteran guard appeared to have suffered a dislocated right shoulder after running into a screen set by Orlando center Wendell Carter Jr.
Last season, Shamet suffered a dislocated right shoulder in the preseason. New York waived the guard, as he was going to miss significant time. Shamet spent roughly two months rehabbing the injury before signing with the Knicks in late-December.
Shamet had been starting for New York, with OG Anunoby sidelined due to a hamstring injury. The shooting guard was averaging 9.3 points and shooting 42.4% from behind the arc.
If Shamet elects to undergo surgery this time, or is set to miss significant time, New York could choose to waive him. Shamet is playing on a non-guaranteed contract. The Knicks have just over $148,000 in space under their second-apron hard cap. New York could free up some needed flexibility, as they can’t add another player until April as things currently stand.
