Knicks Star Reveals Key To Contract Standoff With Knicks

September 27, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

NEW YORK — Mitchell Robinson has found a new way to keep himself healthy. “I started my own farm,” Robinson said, embracing his self-proclaimed country roots. The Knicks center explained his reasoning clearly. “It’s so all my stuff is legit fresh, organic, stuff like that.” His farm is located in Nashville, Tennessee. The 27-year-old entered last season out of shape. This year, he arrived to camp at around 260 pounds. “I feel like that’s perfect for me,” Robinson said, pointing to stability as the focus. Mitchell Robinson’s commitment to health is key. Injuries have derailed much of his career, and now in a contract season, he knows the stakes are high.

A Player Who Can Change Games

Robinson’s value goes beyond numbers. Coach Mike Brown put it simply. “He can win a game on the offensive glass alone,” he said. Rebounding, rim protection, and vertical spacing are Mitchell Robinson’s key to unlocking New York’s ceiling.

Brown has already experimented with Robinson in the starting unit. On the first day of training camp, Robinson wore the starters’ blue jersey. The next day, he was with the reserves, swapping with Josh Hart. “We’ll bounce back and forth between lineups,” Brown explained. “And at the end of the day, we’ll figure it out.”

The potential move could push Karl-Anthony Towns to power forward. That alignment gives the Knicks size, rebounding, and lob finishing. Similar to the way the Timberwolves played KAT and Rudy Gobert together. “I can probably throw three alley-oops a game to Mitch,” Brown said. “The vertical threat that he is, he’s got to be one of the best in the league. If he’s not the best, he’s definitely in the top 3.”

Contract Uncertainty

Robinson is also facing questions about his future. He is eligible for an extension, but no progress has been made. For now, he plays on an expiring $12.9 million deal. “I’m gonna come out here and play hard still regardless, whether it’s my last [year of the contract] or my first [year],” Robinson said.

Talks could drag until the trade deadline. If no agreement is reached, the Knicks risk losing him for nothing in free agency. That makes the Mitchell Robinson decision key for New York. Extend him, trade him, or gamble.

What Comes Next

Robinson’s health will define his future. When active, he looks like an All-Defensive candidate. His deal, however, could push New York into the second apron, starting a new financial clock for the team.

The question is whether the Knicks see him as a cornerstone worth the long-term investment or as an asset to move before free agency. His health, effort, and growth this season will likely dictate that answer.
