The pressures of being the No. 1 pick are often as heavy as the crown that comes with that spot.
A decade in, Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns is an All-Star. Likely All-NBA. Legit MVP candidate.

More on this storyline
DNVR Nuggets: Nikola Jokic says Karl-Anthony Towns is a player he’s gotten closer to throughout the years: “We are doing the same job. We are eating the same bread.” “So why not be a little bit communicative.” -via x.com / February 16, 2025
He also likes being teammates with Brunson, who Towns has deferred to as the Captain since arriving from that stunning trade. “I didn’t come over to be a distraction or disrupt the flow or be on an ego trip or anything. It’s about the team. And I came to amplify them and amplify Cap’,” Towns said. “You can’t win a championship by yourself. You need everybody. And I’m just happy we have a team full of guys who are willing to sacrifice and look at the big picture and do what it takes to bring the city wins every single night, and hopefully it results in a chip.” -via New York Post / February 16, 2025
Towns has done all right for himself as a No. 1 pick. His best years might still be ahead of him. “I tried my best in my career to be appreciative of these moments,” Towns said when asked if being named an All-Star allows him to reflect on his career and expectations that come with being the No. 1 pick. “This is something I’ve learned as my career has gone on, a decade in. I make it a point to appreciate these moments as they come, because you never know what life has. “When I was younger, I felt like I was very invincible, that nothing would happen. Then injuries came along in my career, which I had never dealt with my entire life. It humbled me, slowed me down and allowed me to appreciate these moments, because you never know what life has in store.” -via New York Times / February 14, 2025

Khobi Price: Lakers say Dorian Finney-Smith (right shoulder contusion) has been upgraded to available for tonight at Clippers. Gabe Vincent (left knee contusion) has been upgraded to probable while Cam Reddish (personal) is doubtful. -via Twitter @khobi_price / February 4, 2025
League sources say the Lakers have been attempting to use the contracts of Gabe Vincent ($11 million this season, $11.5 million next) and Maxi Kleber ($11 million this season; $11 million next season) in this pursuit. One significant hurdle, however, is that Kleber (who came to the Lakers in the Dončić deal) can only be traded in a one-for-one deal rather than being aggregated. Conceivably, that takes options like Atlanta big man Clint Capela (who is on an expiring deal worth $22.2 million) off the board. -via New York Times / February 4, 2025
