Dan Hurley Breaks Silence On Knicks Coaching Rumors

NBA Fans Want Doris Burke Fired (1:31)

For the second straight offseason, UConn’s Dan Hurley finds himself in the middle of NBA rumors.

After the Knicks let go of Tom Thibobeau on Tuesday, the two-time national champion’s name quickly came up on the shortlist of candidates that could get New York over the top. But he’s mostly stayed silent, until now.

Speaking to the Hartford Courant, Hurley addressed the possibility of coaching his hometown team and it doesn’t sound like he has much interest.

“Not another summer of that,” he told the paper.

Hurley grew up in Jersey City and played college ball at nearby Seton Hall — making it a potential dream destination for the Huskies head coach.

Last year, he reportedly turned down a six-year, $70 million offer from Jeanie Buss and the Lakers before re-upping in Storrs to the tune of six years, $50 million.

“My whole mindset, the type of coaching that suits me best right now, is certainly college,” Hurley said last summer. “I want to be able to control my own destiny the best that I can. I schedule my games, I pick the players, I hire the staff, I decide how long we’re going to practice, when we’re going to practice.”

Per the New Haven Register, sources at UConn don’t seem overly concerned with Hurley leaving either. Especially with what the 52-year-old has been able to build at the Big East power.

The Huskies went 24-11 last season in their back-to-back national title defense. But Hurley seems encouraged by what his program has been able to do heading into 2025-26.

“Two days into practice, not everyone is on campus, but we’re thrilled with the way we’ve been able to put it together,” Hurley shared Tuesday.

We’ll see if his feelings shift over the next few weeks as the Knicks’ coaching search heats up.
