Colin Cowherd Doesn’t Hold Back On Knicks Firing Tom Thibodeau

The 10 Flukiest Playoff Runs In NBA History (1:55)

Colin Cowherd may be on vacation from his syndicated sports talk radio show this week, but the Tom Thibodeau news was so big that he had to say something.

On Tuesday, ESPN‘s Shams Charania shared that the Knicks were relieving Coach Thibs of his duties following New York’s Eastern Conference Finals exit. Despite leading the team to four playoff appearances in five years and the first back-to-back 50+ win seasons since the Patrick Ewing era.

That led to Cowherd sharing his thoughts on the Knicks’ decision — which he clearly didn’t agree with.

“Quite a reward for a great season,” the FS1 voice said.

Others offered their commentary in Cowherd’s mentions.

“The Knicks have been awful with James Dolan as ‘governor’… so, clearly, they were playing too well the last couple years and didn’t want to risk the recent trend where the eastern conf finalist made the finals the following season,” a user replied.

“Phil Jackson in his prime could not save the Knicks organization. It is a veritable dumpster fire,” another posted.

“Incoming Jay Wright?” a fan asked.

“NBA head coach has to have the most turnover out of any sport,” another person pointed out.

“A bad front/back office will tank ANY franchise,” another user warned.

“The irony is, he’d still have a job had they lost to the Celts in the previous round,” another fan pointed out.

While Thibodeau’s certainly had his faults in his head coaching tenure, it’s hard to make the case right now that this is the move New York should’ve made. Prior to his arrival at Madison Square Garden, the Knicks had gone seven straight years with a losing record (topping 30 wins just three times).

Would you have fired Thibs if you were running the team?
