The New York Yankees today announced that they have re-signed right-handed pitcher Paul Blackburn to a one-year Major League contract.
Blackburn, 32, went 0-3 with one save and a 6.23 ERA (39.0IP, 47H, 29R/27ER, 12BB, 34K, 6HR) in 15 combined games (four starts) with the Mets and Yankees in 2025. He began the season with the Mets before being designated for assignment on August 16 and released on August 19. The right-handed pitcher was then signed by the Yankees to a Major League contract on August 21. In eight relief appearances with the Yankees, he posted a 5.28 ERA (15.1IP, 16H, 10R/9ER, 4BB, 16K, 3HR), including a 1.50 ERA (12.0IP, 2ER) over his final seven regular season appearances. Blackburn also appeared on the 2025 American League Wild Card Series and American League Division Series rosters for the Yankees.
The Antioch, Calif., native was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the supplemental first round (56th overall) of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. Blackburn was acquired by the Seattle Mariners along with INF Daniel Vogelbach from Chicago-NL in exchange for LHP Mike Montgomery and RHP Jordan Pries on July 20, 2016. He was then acquired by the Oakland Athletics from Seattle in exchange for INF Danny Valencia on November 12, 2016. Blackburn was acquired by the New York Mets from Oakland in exchange for RHP Kade Morris on July 30, 2024.
