The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers from the Miami Marlins in exchange for minor league outfielders Dillon Lewis and Brendan Jones, and minor league infielders Dylan Jasso and Juan Matheus.
Weathers, 26, went 2-2 with a 3.99 ERA (38.1IP, 37H, 20R/17ER, 12BB, 37K, 7HR) in eight starts with the Marlins in 2025. He missed the majority of the season due to two injured list stints. Weathers was placed on the 15-day injured list from March 27 (retroactive to March 24) – May 14 with a left flexor muscle strain and on the 60-day injured list from June 9 – September 11 with a left lat strain.
Over the last two seasons (2024-25), the left-hander has gone 7-8 with a 3.74 ERA (125.0IP, 115H, 59R/52ER, 36BB, 117K, 18HR) in 24 starts. During that stretch, he allowed 3ER-or-fewer in 19 of those 24 starts.
In 70 career appearances (55 starts) over parts of five Major League seasons with the San Diego Padres (2021-23) and Miami Marlins (2023-25), he has gone 12-23 with one save and a 4.93 ERA (281.0IP, 290H, 164R/154ER, 99BB, 235K, 50HR). Since 2021, his 17 pickoffs are tied for the fourth-most in the Majors.
At 20 years, 294 days old, Weathers made his Major League debut in 2020 NLDS Game 1 at Los Angeles-NL. He is one of six players in Major League history to debut in the postseason and was the second-youngest to ever debut in the playoffs (Kansas City’s Adalberto Mondesi did so at 20 year, 95 days in 2015).
With Ryan’s father, David, playing for the Yankees from 1996-97, the Weathers will become the fifth father/son duo in Yankees history to both play for the club, joining Clay Bellinger and Cody Bellinger, Mark Leiter and Mark Leiter Jr., Ron Davis and Ike Davis, and Yogi Berra and Dale Berra.
