The New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays are becoming arch enemies, as the end of Tuesday’s game was full of drama and intensity. Yankees’ closer Aroldis Chapman threw a 101 MPH fastball at the head of Michael Brosseau, and the Ray’s supposedly believes he had intent behind it.
Immediately after Chapman struck out Michael and the game concluded, both benches cleared in a shouting match. After Brosseau was nearly plunked in the head with a potentially mortal wound, the umpires gather together to issue both teams a warning. Earlier in the game, Joey Wendle was hit as well, and they also believe that hit by pitch was intentional.
Wednesday evening’s game is shaping up to be a must-watch, based on the intensity of the finale from Tuesday. However, Rays’ manager Kevin Cash had harsh words for the Yankees following the game.
There is clearly bad blood between the two teams, so something extreme could occur in the near future.
Here’s what Kevin Cash had to say in a tirade over Yankees supposed head-hunting intent:
“It’s ridiculous. Enough is enough. … It was mishandled by the Yankees.”
“Poor judgement. Poor coaching. Poor teaching.”
“I can assure you, other than three years ago, there hasn’t been one pitch thrown with intent from any of our guys. Somebody has to be accountable and the last thing I’ll say is I have a whole damn stable full of guys that throw 98 mph.”

Aaron Boone on Kevin Cash’s comments: “That’s pretty scary comments. I don’t think that’s right at all.”

Luckily for the Yankees, they managed to squeak out a 5-3 win on Tuesday, despite struggling against Tampa Bay this year. The Rays currently sit at 25-12 on a season while the Yankees are coming off a tough stretch without some of their best players. They are currently at 20-14. On Wednesday, the Yankees will host Jordan Montgomery on the mound, who is coming off a solid start last week against the Mets.
