The New York Yankees are reportedly interested in a trade for Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed starting pitcher Dustin May, according to Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated. The Yankees, who find themselves chasing the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East, have been dealing with multiple injuries to their starting rotation this year. New York has already swung deals to address multiple needs, and it appears they’re not done yet.
Rumor: Yankees Becoming Frontrunners to Trade for Dustin May
Odd Man Out?
The Dodgers are finally healthy enough to employ a six-man rotation. They were considering this move as early as spring training this year. However, with the return of Blake Snell as early as this week, as well as the additions of Tyler Glasnow and Emmet Sheehan, Dustin May may be on the outside looking in when it comes to regular starts.

Overcoming Devastating Injuries
May has shown flashes of being unhittable. The problem for him, historically, has been staying healthy. The right-hander had a second Tommy John surgery as well as an esophagus repair that kept him out of live baseball in 2023. His name has been circulated around the league as a possible trade chip in the last several weeks. David Vassegh reported that May took pictures on the field at Dodger Stadium after his last start. He will be a free agent at the end of the year.
A Period of Adjustment
May has struggled to find consistency in his time back from recovery. He is currently 6-7 with a 4.85 ERA. He has a predilection to give up home runs and tends to have one bad inning in most starts. The right-hander is primarily a two-pitch pitcher with a sweeper and a four-seam fastball. If May were to develop another high-quality pitch in his arsenal, it would aid in his longevity and effectiveness.
It is unknown what the Dodgers would be asking in return for May, but it seems clear that they are willing to deal him.
