fairly The New York Yankees made another trade to address their infield on Saturday, acquiring Amed Rosario from the Washington Nationals, according to Jack Curry of the YES Network. In return, the Nationals will get right-hander Clayton Beeter, who has limited major league experience, and minor league outfielder Browm Martinez. Rosario had been mentioned as a potential deadline fit for the Yankees.

This news comes the day after the Yankees traded for third baseman Ryan McMahon of the Colorado Rockies. McMahon picked up a hit and made an impressive play at third in his Yankees debut on Saturday. New York needs all the good news it can get right now, as they continue their recent skid and captain Aaron Judge is headed to the injured list.

Rosario will return to the Five Boroughs after starting his big-league career with the crosstown New York Mets. A utility player who can play middle infield as well as outfield, he debuted in 2017 and spent four seasons with the Mets. In the 2020 offseason, New York traded Rosario to the then-Cleveland Indians as part of the blockbuster deal that brought star shortstop Francisco Lindor to the Mets. After spending two and a half seasons in Cleveland, they dealt him to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023. Rosario split 2024 between three teams: the Tampa Bay Rays, a brief return to the Dodgers, and the Cincinnati Reds. He signed a one-year deal with the Nationals this past offseason. This makes him a free agent after this season.
For his career, the 29-year-old Rosario has a .273/.308/.399 slash line with 68 home runs and 384 RBI across nine seasons. Aside from a higher slugging percentage, his slash line this year is more or less consistent at .270/.310/.426. He also has five homers and 18 RBI. Rosario provides a bit of speed with 110 career steals. However, he only has one this season.
Beeter debuted with the Yankees last season after his selection in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft. In 2024, he had a 4.91 ERA in three major league appearances. In two major league games this year, he has struggled to a 14.73 ERA. Across three minor league levels this year, though, he has a solid 3.80 ERA.
Martinez is doing well in the Dominican Summer League this year, hitting .404 with three homers and 16 RBI with a 1.139 OPS in 18 games.
