The latest update regarding New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton is that his elbow injuries are more serious than initially thought. According to MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch, he is set to undergo his third round of PRP injections on Monday. In addition, according to CBS Sports, Stanton mentioned that the elbow injuries are “considered severe in both elbows.” Stanton believes the injury was caused by changes he made at the plate with his bat from last season. The timeline for when Stanton can return to baseball activities is still unknown. The last resort would be for the 35-year-old to have surgery, which would require him to miss the whole season. Stanton is already slated to start the season on the IL, where the Yankees will have to explore other DH options.

Giancarlo Stanton’s Elbow Injuries Labeled as Severe
Stanton has not played in any spring training games so far. When reporters asked him about the current state of his injuries, his response warranted more concern and severity than before. His elbow injuries are not a new matter, as he’s been experiencing this issue since last season. It’s been unfortunate for the slugger, as the injections have yet to provide him with any sort of remedy. Injuries in general are also no stranger to Stanton. He was on the IL last season, dealing with a hamstring strain. But despite the hamstring and discomfort in his elbows, Stanton was still a strong contributor in the postseason and won the ALCS MVP award.
Injuries have not been kind to the Yankees, who have been hit with the injury bug hard this spring. Players impacted include potent starting pitcher Luis Gil, DJ LeMahieu, and now ace Gerrit Cole, who is getting a second opinion on his pitching elbow. With Stanton’s absence, the Yankees may hand the designated hitter role to Ben Rice. In addition, the Yankees have been rumored to be eyeing J.D. Martinez, who is still available as a free agent.
