Lots of interesting, funny, idiotic, and insightful things were said by the Mets—and about them—recently. Here are some of our favorites.
Your 2025 New York Mets: Tough Stretch.
Tough stretch , no sugarcoating it . I didn’t see this coming . I’m as frustrated as everybody else . We will get through this period . Our injured pitching will come back over the next few weeks . It is unlikely the team’s hitting with RISP will continue at this weak pace. Keep…

Tough Stretch.
“We are all frustrated, obviously, not going to lie. We’re better than that, and they know that. It’s a tough stretch, but we’ve got to be better. It starts with me. We believe in those guys.” -Carlos Mendoza [MLB]
Tough Stretch.
“It’s a tough stretch for sure. Hopefully [after] getting the mental day off and getting away from the field we can come back and get back on the horse.” -Francisco Lindor [MLB]
Tough Stretch.
“We’ll continue to believe in those guys. They’re good players. They’re going through a very tough stretch right now.” -Carlos Mendoza [MLB]
Things aren’t going great when you’re talking about the Pittsburgh Pirates like this.
“There’s a big league team on the other side, [we’ve] gotta tip our cap to them. They did a really good job. They outplayed us. They pitched better than us, they hit better than us, they ran the bases better than us, they played better defense. … With that being said, yeah, there’s a sense of, we’re frustrated, we’re not winning, but at the end of the day, it’s just part of the adversity that we’re dealing with right now.” -Francisco Lindor [MLB]
These quotes are about David Peterson’s earlier start in the week but can be applied to any number of Mets pitchers and whatever team they faced in June.
“It didn’t feel like I had my best command and wasn’t able to execute some pitches. And they took advantage.” -David Peterson [New York Post]
“It’s one of those stretches, back-to-back outings, and we have got to go back and watch films and make some adjustments.” -Carlos Mendoza [New York Post]
These quotes are about Francisco Lindor but can be applied to any number of Mets hitters in June.
“I feel like I have got pitches to hit, but I just haven’t got the barrel to it. When I just miss it, today I had three pop-ups and then I lined out. I think two of them were [hit hard], but it’s just coming down to execution.” -Francisco Lindor [New York Post]
“My mechanics are not in the right spot, but they are not as bad [as they were]. I have just got to keep my head on the ball as long as I can and get the barrel through the baseball. My toe is my toe. It’s part of being a professional baseball player…. I have just got to be better.” -Francisco Lindor [New York Post]
This is obviously true and I’m empathic to Mendoza…
“When [my decisions] don’t work, it’s on me. When they work, it’s on the player. It’s as simple as that.” -Carlos Mendoza [New York Post]
…but man, what was he doing letting Paul Blackburn resume pitching after an hour and a half rain delay.
“Obviously not an easy [decision], but given where we are bullpen wise, especially in this stretch of the last 12 days where we haven’t gotten length from our starter, we kept [Blackburn] throwing at high intensity. We knew it wasn’t one of those where he was going to go back out and we were going to try to get him through five [innings]. It was just more that if we could get an extra 35-40 [pitches], we could use it.” -Carlos Mendoza [New York Post]
“I was just hoping that I could cover a couple of innings coming off that rain delay.” -Paul Blackburn [New York Post]
New Annual Mets June Tradition: PLAYERS MEETING!
Brandon Nimmo says that the Mets’ player meeting today felt “similar” to the one that they had last year

Juan Soto was among those who spoke during the players’ only meeting, according to a source.
Soto’s message? “Keep going. Believe in it.”— Mike Puma (@NYPost_Mets) June 29, 2025
“We’re going to stick together and continue to play as hard as we can, to come out of it and hopefully, once we are out of it, we don’t go back to something like this.” -Francisco Lindor [MLB]
Don’t look now but the Mets are 3-1 in July.
“Hopefully something sparks [us], we get some momentum and we start riding that again.”-Clay Holmes [New York Post]
“Awesome. Whatever helps us win, that’s what I’m down for.” -Brandon Nimmo [New York Post]
Mets Veteran Rotation Starter…/checks notes/…David Peterson, that can’t be right.
“We haven’t been able to get that consistently. Petey, it feels like … he’s going to get you through six, and he’s going to go back out for the seventh.” -Carlos Mendoza [New York Post]
“I think this is a very good Major League starter. Yes, there are going to be balls in play with David Peterson. … But the way he goes about it, his ability to stay in-zone with all of his pitches, his ability to compete, his ability to mix — I think he has a very successful formula for getting Major League hitters out.” -David Stearns [New York Post]
“We’ve kind of been battling it right now, and it sucks, and we wish those guys the best but at the same time, we’ve got a job to do. Being able to go as deep as I can and pass it off to Stanek and Díaz, it was a good night.” -David Peterson [MLB]
Really nice piece about Tom Seaver and David Wrights relationship by Dhani Joseph.
“[During their first conversation Tom Seaver asked David Wright, ‘what are your interests outside of baseball?’]
“I was thinking to myself, like I don’t have any interest outside of baseball. I’m 22 years old. It’s baseball for me all the time. And he goes ‘Well that could be a problem because then you start taking your success and your failures home with you, and it starts to eat at you even more.’” -David Wright [New York Times]
[“You know David, between the two of us, we have 311 wins,” Wright, a third baseman, recalled Seaver saying.]
“I knew it was coming and I still laughed. That’s kind of what attracted me to him, his sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh. The fact that the guy, the franchise, is going out of his way to remember my name and remembers my parents’ names or that I got three younger brothers. But also takes a genuine interest in, probably not watching the games, but checking to see how I’m doing on a consistent basis.” -David Wright [New York Times]
