Report: Mets to Call-Up No. 9 Prospect Ronny Mauricio

June 4, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

According to multiple reports, the New York Mets are calling up their No. 9-ranked prospect, Ronny Mauricio. The move comes after Mark Vientos suffered an injury in last night’s win against the Los Angeles Dodgers. After a blistering start to the Triple-A season, Mauricio will have an opportunity to earn everyday playing time with Vientos seemingly heading to the injured list.

Report: Mets to Call Up Ronny Mauricio

Mauricio, 24, was formerly the No. 1 prospect in the Mets organization. He was first called up to the majors in September of 2023 and struggled initially. After his brief stint in the majors, he returned to the Dominican Winter League, where he had won MVP the season prior, only to suffer a torn ACL. He underwent surgery in January of last year and missed the entire 2024 season.

After missing more than a year rehabbing his knee, Mauricio has put up unreal numbers in Triple-A this year. In nine games this season, he’s hitting 515/.564/.818 with three home runs and eight RBI. However, his hot start wasn’t going to force the front office to call him up. In a press conference on May 14, the club’s President of Baseball Operations, David Stearns, said Mauricio wouldn’t be up until the team “has needs” so he can focus on his rehab. With Vientos on his way to the IL, the need has finally come.

Ronny Mauricio first suited up for the Mets in late 2023.

Mauricio will bring strong offensive potential to a Mets’ lineup that has been above average, even without some of its stars performing to their expectations. Juan Soto and Brandon Nimmo have both struggled at the plate at times this season, and if they start clicking with the way Mauricio has been hitting in the minors, the Mets are looking at one of the league’s strongest lineups.

He will also bring more defensive flexibility to the roster, having spent time at second and third base, shortstop, and left field throughout his career.
