Mets still working through contract clauses with Carlos Correa

December 28, 2022 by Empire Sports Media

Things have definitely been slow lately with the New York Mets and Carlos Correa.

Perhaps, some concern has grown for Mets fans as time continues to pass by without a deal.

However, the most recent report indicates that the Mets are still well-positioned for the talented, prized Correa.

Mets “working through things” to get Carlos Correa signed:

Jon Morosi of MLB Network shared some insight this morning into what is going on between the Mets and Correa at the moment.

He reported that the Mets are still figuring things out from restructuring the proposed deal to Correa as well as clauses that can be added to the contract, which comes as no surprise.

At this time, per Morosi, there are no other teams involved for Correa. He made known that the holidays are the reason why things have slowed down recently. Morosi also said that he does ultimately believe Correa signs with the Mets as well as one rival executive.

All good news. It does also follow up with what has been recently reported by Mike Puma of the New York Post. Correa’s preference is the Mets, he knows they are his best option, and he has reportedly not actively looked to sign elsewhere.

In the end, the Mets desperately do need Correa. This is a lineup that is at least one bat short, considering their World Series expectations. Correa provides a solid contact presence (career batting average of .279) along with strong power (six years of 20 or more home runs) that the Mets’ batting order severely lacked last year.

Adding Correa to an infield of Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil, and Francisco Lindor is as exciting as it gets. Ultimately, the Mets need to finalize a contract with Correa at some point, and luckily, the odds still seem to be in their favor.
