The team has made a variety of moves ahead of their series finale.
The Mets have placed right-handed pitcher Max Kranick on the injured list with a right elbow strain, called up Justin Hagenman and Dedniel Núñez, and optioned Ty Adcock to Triple-A Syracuse.
Hagenman is expected to be the bulk pitcher tomorrow in the team’s series opener in Philadelphia, but the Kranick injury comes as a surprise. The bullpen swap of Adcock for Núñez is the team’s latest move to call up a fresh arm in an effort to keep the rest of the major league staff fresh during a stretch of thirteen days without an off day.
The Mets gave Hagenman his major league debut earlier this season, and he went three-and-one-third innings in a solid outing before being sent back to Syracuse. In Triple-A, he’s thrown 33.1 innings with a 6.21 ERA and a 5.14 FIP.
Kranick has thrown 35.0 innings for the Mets at the major league level this year, pitching exclusively in relief as he’s put up a 3.65 ERA and a 3.88 FIP. Injuries had been his biggest flaw in the past, and you never want to hear that a pitcher’s elbow is barking. Here’s hoping he gets relatively good news on that front as he heads back to New York City for an MRI.
Núñez broke out in a big way last year but dealt with an arm injury of his own in the second half. He struggled mightily in his brief stint with the Mets earlier this season—to the tune of a 7.36 ERA in 3.2 innings of work. He’s thrown 19.0 innings with a 3.79 ERA and a 4.45 FIP for Syracuse this year.
And last but not least, Adcock has a 3.00 ERA in 3.0 major league innings this year. He’s spent most of his season in Syracuse, and he has a 4.50 ERA and a 4.37 FIP in 22.0 innings at that level.
