On this date in 1979, the Mets’ board of directors at the time announced they intended to sell the team before the start of the 1980 season. Of course the team would eventually bought by Nelson Doubleday and Fred Wilpon which sealed this team’s fate until finally coming full circle with the Wilpons selling the team themselves.
