Your Tuesday morning dose of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links.
Meet the Mets
The Mets began their series with a 5-4 victory over the Diamondbacks. The Mets got all of their offense from two big swings—a two-run blast from Pete Alonso in the fourth inning and a three-run shot from Francisco Lindor in the seventh. The latter proved to be critical, as Dedniel Núñez walked all three batters he faced, and Reed Garrett allowed all three runs to score. Edwin Díaz, thankfully, pitched a spotless ninth for the save. Griffin Canning was spotless after serving up a leadoff home run to Corbin Carroll to earn his fifth win for New York.
