Meet the Mets
Yesterday’s game between the Mets and Cardinals was postponed due to inclement weather. They will play a split doubleheader today with Mets prospect Blade Tidwell slated to make his major league debut in Game 1.
“I thought I was close, but I didn’t know how close,” Blade Tidwell said of getting the call-up. “So it was a complete surprise.” He celebrated with his 12-week old Cavapoo puppy Bentley when he heard the news.
The timing couldn’t be better for Tidwell’s family. He is from Loretto, Tennessee, which is a six-hour drive from St. Louis. “I think half of my hometown is coming [Sunday],” Tidwell said.
Tylor Megill—one of the early adopters of the Mets’ pitching lab—is pitching with more confidence and conviction. He wants to not only stick in the rotation this time, he wants to be an ace, and he wants his pitching coach to hold him accountable when he doesn’t pitch well. The results have spoken for themselves.
The results the Mets are getting from their pitchers are part of an organizational success story five years in the making, writes John Harper of SNY.
Around the National League East
Aaron Nola earned his first win of the season after going 0-5 to begin 2025, as the Phillies defeated the Diamondbacks 7-2.
Kyle Stowers hit a walk-off grand slam to cap off a five-run ninth for the Marlins, as they rallied to beat the Athletics 9-6.
Amed Rosario had a four-RBI game and Andrew Chafin struck out two in his Nationals debut in an 11-6 Washington victory over the Reds.
Spencer Schwellenbach got knocked around as the Braves fell to the Dodgers 10-3.
Former NL East rival Jayson Werth had a horse named Flying Mohawk competing in the Kentucky Derby yesterday. “You don’t have to worry about getting knifed in the parking lot by a Mets fan,” Werth said of horse racing, contrasting it with baseball. Flying Mohawk came in 12th place in the race of 19 horses.
Around Major League Baseball
Devastating news for the Red Sox: the gruesome knee injury Triston Casas suffered as he stumbled over the first base bag attempting to beat a ball out on Friday is every bit as bad as it looked. The Red Sox announced that he has a ruptured patellar tendon—the same injury Edwin Díaz suffered in the World Baseball Classic in 2023 that cost him that season—and will miss the rest of the season.
Diamondbacks right-hander Corbin Burnes will miss his next start with shoulder inflammation. The Diamondbacks are hopeful he’ll only have to miss one start.
The Dodgers placed Tommy Edman on the 10-day IL with right ankle inflammation. They are calling up KBO star infielder Hyeseong Kim from Triple-A to take Edman’s spot on the roster.
In an attempt to shore up their pitching staff, the Blue Jays signed righty Spencer Turnbull to a big league deal and picked up José Ureña on a minor league deal after his brief and unsuccessful stint with the Mets.
David Schoenfield of ESPN handed out a letter grade to every team through the first month of the season. The Mets were one of three teams to receive an A.

This Date in Mets History
The Mets swept a doubleheader from the Cubs on this date in 1969 with Tom Seaver going the distance in Game 1, so hopefully that bodes well for the twin bill in the Midwest slated for today.
