Meet the Mets
It took them a while, but the Mets managed to pull out a win over the Phillies in extra innings despite some shaky pitching all around. Noah Syndergaard had what was arguably his worst outing since 2017, giving up five runs in five innings. The bullpen was slightly better, with the notable exception of Jeurys Familia, who continued his early season struggles. Still, the Mets’ bats kept them in the game, and some nifty base-running by Juan Lagares helped them bring home the win.
The Post strongly questioned Mickey Callaway’s decision not to bring out Edwin Diaz for a four-out save. The Athletic also took a look at why the Mets are choosing to use Diaz so conservatively. And Tim Britton shared Mickey Callaway’s thoughts on the subject.
