Triple-A: Syracuse Mets (20-24)
SYRACUSE 7, LEHIGH VALLEY 6 (BOX)
Joander Suarez was gifted six runs in the bottom of the first, and it was a beautiful gesture, and there are those saying that Joander shouldn’t be accepting gifts, and I would say that only a stupid person would say that. Why wouldn’t he do that? Those runs help him out because he’ll have a relatively big lead instead of relying on 40-year-old veterans. My attitude is, why shouldn’t he accept those runs? He gives up runs to everyone else, why shouldn’t he accept some runs? Binghamton has secured that part of the division for many years, so if some batters give Joander some runs, he gets to take them like any other pitcher.
In the fifth, Syracuse loaded up the bases and was able to score a run on a force out, and that run would end up being extremely important as the IronPigs plated three runs apiece in the sixth and seventh to make it an extremely close 7-6 ballgame. Grant Hartwig and Colin Poche, both of whom have had their ups and downs this season, brought their A games and were able to keep Syracuse on top.

Double-A: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (21-16)
BINGHAMTON 12, HARTFORD 0 (BOX)
Jonah Tong, as you would expect, had a great afternoon. His Yard Goats counterpart, Connor Staine, matched Tong pitch for pitch early on. Finally, in the top of the sixth, Nick Morabito blasted an upper deck shot 101 MPH off the bat to break the scoreless tie and give the Rumble Ponies the lead. JT Schwartz and William Lugo drove in a run apiece a few batters later, and then Kevin Parada of all people put an exclamation point on the inning with a two-run homer to give Binghamton a 5-0 lead. Tong looked like he was beginning to falter when he got back on the mound, as his command started wavering, but he struck out a batter and induced a double play to get out of the inning and end his evening on a strong note. The offense wasn’t done with that 5 spot in the sixth, it ended up. The Ponies plated one more in the seventh, four in the eighth, and two in the ninth to turn what ended up a shutout into a blowout. Those two runs in the ninth inning, by the way? Another Parada home run. Go figure. The monster is out of the cage! With the offensive outburst, his three homers are now tied on the team with noted home run hitter Nick Morabito.

High-A: Brooklyn Cyclones (25-12)
BROOKLYN 8, WINSTON-SALEM 5 (BOX)
For most of the game, the Cyclones held the lead but it was razor thin. 2-1. 3-1. 3-2. In the top of the seventh, the Dash took the lead from Brooklyn, but it wouldn’t last long. In the bottom of the frame, the Cyclones combined to score four runs on three doubles, a single, and a hit-by-pitch; all of that came with two outs, too. Jefrey De Los Santos homered in the eighth to give them a little wiggle room, and while it came in handy when the Dash scored in the ninth, Brooklyn’s edge was big enough that it didn’t really matter.

Single-A: St. Lucie Mets (20-18)
DAYTONA 6, ST. LUCIE 5 (BOX)
Reliever Channing Austin made his first professional start, and the results were about what you would’ve expected for a 23-year-old undrafted college reliever making his first professional start. The right-hander gave up four earned runs and allowed six runs total over 3.2 innings. The bullpen after him locked things down, and St. Lucie actually began to mount a comeback. They scored a run in the fifth, sixth, and two in the eighth to turn what initially looked like a definite loss into a competitive ballgame. St. Lucie managed to plate a single run in the ninth to come within a run, but weren’t able to complete the comeback.
